Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

This initiative enables community youths from local families of all income levels to become gainfully employed during the summer by offering them career guidance, orienting them to the world of work, and placing them in jobs that teach them valuable skills, academic and experiential learning.

Every summer, the JCC of Marine Park places teenage residents of NYC between the ages of 14 and 24 in various interning positions.  The boys and girls in the program receive minimum wage for 25 hours of work per week, for a period of 7 weeks.  This means that teen-agers earn over $1,200 each at their summer jobs.

Over the years, this program has proven to be extremely effective in placing teen-agers on summer vacation who need to find gainful employment in jobs, also allowing them to  participate in communal activities during the months of July and August.
